France And Colonies Philatelic Society To Meet In San Diego

The annual meeting is only 2 weeks away, and will be held in conjunction with the Sandical Show in San Diego January 24-26, 2014.

We expect to have 100 frames of France & Colonies material on exhibit – which is almost certain to be the largest exhibition of such material to be shown this year in the US. You will have a chance to see wonderful exhibits related to France Proper, as well as colonies such as Algeria, Senegal & Dependencies, Obock, Tahiti, etc.   As we learn more we will post it here.

A very interesting set of presentations related to French Area philately are also scheduled for Friday afternoon, such as:

Philately and International Mail Order Fraud by Ed Grabowski.

Postal History of French Newfoundland by James Taylor.

Ships sank, pilgrims moved, wars were waged, yet the French kept the mail moving in/out of the Holy Land 1852-1914 by Michael Bass.

An FCPS Business Meeting & Show and Tell is also on the schedule either Friday afternoon or mid-day Saturday. Friday evening at 6:30 PM we will all gather at a nearby restaurant for our traditional dinner together.

So if you enjoy thinking about French Area Philately, you need to make plans to be at the show.

Official Show Hotel
                                Official Show Hotel

The show hotel is the Hampton Inn San Diego-Kearny Mesa, 5434 Kearny Mesa Rd., San Diego, CA 92111. The last time I looked, rooms could be booked at www.hampton.com for rates starting at $97 per night. You can also call the hotel directly at (858) 292-1482, but the rates may not be the same. The hotel is around 10 miles from the airport, although the hotel does not have an airport shuttle. However, hotel parking is free, and conveniently, the hotel is just across the parking lot from the show.

Registration and additional information can be found at the Sandical Website:

Please note that the Sandical website is a bit out of date and the exhibit list shown is for last year, not this year.

Welcome!!
